Getting the Kingdom
An Ottawa evangelical church will be manning the pumps at a local Pioneer gas station next weekend, with plans to give away $10,000 worth of free fuel.
I’m thankful for those times when we get what the kingdom is about. Sure, a lot of the people coming through for free gas won’t be the poorest of the poor, and some of those receiving grace may complain that those with non-fuel-efficient cars shouldn’t be al
lowed to fill up (see comments on article), but regardless, this has a Shaine Claibornesque feel to it (see 2:40 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ETBMhEzYKU) and I love it. Ensuring that only the poorest are served first followed by the second poorest is never the point. Grace isn’t fair, but what’s not fair about it, is that even one person gets free gas. We throw parties will strangers, we bbq for strangers and we share life with them, not so they join our church, but because the Kingdom is at hand. This, I like.
I like this. My take on random acts of kindness, is that sometimes you just have to try something. With my analytical mind, I often try to think through everything and see how it could be offensive to one person, or unfair to another, and still others could get the wrong/opposite message. But sometimes you just have to try it.
